Immigation to the US

This week, we are going to have a closer look on immigration to the United States. First, we are going to talk about what immigration is. It is important for us to understand the push- and pull factors that lead to immigration to the US in the 19th century.

This page is well suited for both a long term work or a shorter session for students in secondary school. My students are going to have a closer look at these things

1. What was it like to travel across the sea? How had immigrants come to the conclusion that they had to leave? 

2. What was it like to arrive in the US? What did they think about the future?
3. What did they have to leave behind?
4. Who are you and who will you become?
5. What happens now?

Writing articles...

I must admit this is not something that I am used to do. Usually, we tend to focus on writing five-paragraph essays. Now we will focus on writing something different and I must make sure that they get the difference between an article and an essay. To me, the main differences between essays and articles are that the latter is intended for a large audience whereas essays are for a more narrow audience. For more information, visit these links
