Immigation to the US

This week, we are going to have a closer look on immigration to the United States. First, we are going to talk about what immigration is. It is important for us to understand the push- and pull factors that lead to immigration to the US in the 19th century.
A useful resource is the Ellis Island webpage. Here, you will find resource about both the island and about immigration to the US in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

You will find the page here: Ellis Island Interactive Tour.

This page is well suited for both a long term work or a shorter session for students in secondary school. My students are going to have a closer look at these things

1. What was it like to travel across the sea? How had immigrants come to the conclusion that they had to leave
2. What was it like to arrive in the US? What did they think about the future?
3. What did they have to leave behind?
4. Who are you and who will you become?
5. What happens now?
